real good, not just feel good
Our Manifesto
Our Manifesto
We are a bunch of regular folks. We don't have a big VC behind us, none of us has ever worked for Google or met Bono, and we don't pretend to be better or greener or more socially conscious than anyone else. We do fundamentally believe that companies can both make a profit, create sustainable businesses, and also improve the lives of others who have not traditionally benefited from "private sector" forces.
In fact, we think it is incumbent upon all businesses to do so.
So we've built some software, tools and expertise that will help to do that. The means we've chosen to make our impact is through creating opportunities in all types of businesses to embed online giving into transactional and process flows, and to integrate these tools and capabilities into overall business strategy. Implementing our software represents a commitment to simple, secure and easy giving, forming part of a collective drive to make user-driven philanthropy part of everyday life for the many, rather than the few.
"Powering Responsible Business". That's us in a nutshell.
We are an emerging, majority employee-owned "for profit" company.
- Software platform in development since August 2007
- 5% of Benevity net profit goes to charity
- Operate through a donor advised fund structure in Canada and the United States which facilitates the distribution of funds to the chosen charities of our users
- Benevity is a "neutral" platform, in that we don't dictate the choices of charities (although some are featured for convenience)
Vision:
To ignite grassroots giving by making the Benevity Platform a ubiquitous public utility with the goal that giving to the cause or charity of one’s choice is as easy and as prevalent as leaving a tip at a restaurant.
Core Values:
- Transparency (in all that we do, especially the fees we charge to non-profits)
- Collaboration (because our customers and users know more than we do about what we should build)
- Empowerment (yeah, pretty corporate sounding, but it works)
- Community (i.e. the Power of Many)
